Dr. Shawn Nichols, DDS focuses on helping young kids’ dental arches grow and develop correctly. Correct arch size and form have a significant impact on breathing, sleeping, teeth alignment and other challenges. Correct size and form can also potentially reduce the need for extensive orthodontic treatment in the teen years.
Dr. Nichols received her bachelor’s degree from K-State in 2001 and her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa in 2005. When she and her husband, Jarrod, returned to Manhattan after graduating, she spent most of the next 13 years in dental public health, taking care of underserved patients in Riley and Geary counties. In recent years, Dr. Nichols began taking courses focused on myofunctional orthodontics and alternative approaches to arch growth and development in hopes of alleviating the symptoms her own children were beginning to exhibit.
Passionate about helping families understand the root causes of crowded teeth and the benefits of early intervention, Dr. Nichols looks forward to walking alongside other parents on the journey to learn more about this alternative approach and the fascinating way muscles help form mouth shape and size.
